Gula Cakery - Sweet Afternoon Escapade

Greetings, everyone.
OMG~!!! It's February already???
So much to do... So little time... Hahaha

But I just hang around... most of the time

Today, I would like to talk about Gula Cakery. This cafe is owned by high-profile baker, Arieni Ritzal and her family. She created the scrumptious cakes, her brother Adrien designed the cafe and their parents are in charge of the hot meals for lunch and dinner. Prior to Gula Cakery, the owner had already managed an online bakery and baking class which was previously known as Gula Bakery. This cafe is well-known among netizens as it is often positively-reviewed in blogs. Gula Cakery is divided into two sections (or floors); the cafe is on the first floor whereas the baking classes is held on the ground floor. As for the baking classes, there are classes packages that you can choose from and booking is required. :)

Gula Cakery: Ground floor (baking class) and First floor (cafe)

The cafe is open from 12 noon until 8.00p.m :)

Sadrina recommended this cafe when we wanted to buy a cake for Sora's birthday. She said the cakes here were delicious so we agreed to follow her suggestion. We bought a slice of Mango Cheesecake and Pate A Choux. The Mango Cheesecake was heavenly; crumbly-based, creamy and smooth cheesecake topped with sweet mango slices. As for the Pate A Choux, it was light and fluffy with a velvety vanilla cream filling (it is similar to a cream puff). Since we enjoyed the desserts, we decided to head back to the cafe for lunch the next day.

The cafe's decor is pastel-themed and the ambiance is calm and inviting. There is a section for customers' children to play. As for the seating, you can choose to seat at the children's playing section, normal seating or just chilling at the lounging area.

Some of the cakes :)

Apple Caramel Cheesecake

Banana Salted Caramel Cake

Double Chocolate Banana Cake

Mango Cheesecake

Pandan Kaya Cheesecake

Pecan Caramel Coconut Pie

Raspberry White Chocolate Cake

Nutella Cheesecake Bars

So, what have we ordered?

Creamy Chicken Carbonara Pasta

Perfectly-cooked fettuccine with creamy carbonara sauce and topped with juicy chicken chunks and mushroom slices and cracked peppercorn. I think that the fettuccine was perfectly cooked. The carbonara sauce was creamy and perfectly seasoned. It was rich but not too overwhelming, just the way I liked it. The chicken chunks were still moist and juicy and the sliced mushrooms added extra flavour to the dish. The cracked peppercorn added an extra touch of spiciness and I really enjoyed it.

Seafood Aglio Olio

A symphony of spaghetti tossed together with perfectly cooked seafood; prawns, crabmeat and cuttlefish, cooked in olive oil and garlic and sprinkled with herbs and chili flakes. I think that the spaghetti was perfectly cooked as it was still firm to the bite. The juicy seafood was cleaned thoroughly and they were perfectly cooked. The garlic and sprinkled herbs gave out a mouthwatering aroma and the chili flakes gave a fiery kick to this dish. Furthermore, this dish was perfectly seasoned.

Spicy Butter Chicken Pasta

Perfectly-cooked fettuccine tossed in creamy butter sauce topped with juicy chicken chunks and garnished with red chilies and curry leaves. The light and creamy butter sauce was perfectly seasoned with hints of chili padi, giving this dish a subtle but fiery kick. The chicken chunks were juicy. The aromatic curry leaves made this dish fragrant and more appetizing.

Double Chocolate Banana Cake

This sinfully sweet treat will make any chocolate (or banana) lovers float in chocolaty bliss. A filling of sweet bananas sandwiched by layers of airy chocolate cake coated with high quality chocolate ganache and garnished with a slice of banana and chopped nuts. I think that this cake was loaded with chocolaty goodness and the sweet bananas matched well with the chocolate cake. The nuts added extra crunch to the dessert.

Let's move on to the drinks :)

Passion Minty Lime Sparker

A heavenly concoction of soda water with lime and mint.
I found this truly refreshing and to have this on a hot day...
What a bliss~ Ahhh~

Watermelon Lychee Sparker

When watermelon meets lychee in soda water,
thus this refreshing beverage is created.
Sweet and tangy, cool and fizzy...
It's a tropical escapade in a glass.

Cafe Latte

For coffee lovers, Gula Cakery also has a selection of coffee-based beverages.
This Cafe Latte was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.
If Cafe Latte is not your thing, you can try other options such as Americano, Vanilla Latte, Toffeenut Latte or Caramel Latte. :)

Matcha Green Tea Latte

If you're not a coffee fan or if you're a tea person (or a Matcha Green Tea lover),
you can order this Matcha Green Tea Latte.
High quality Matcha Green Tea combined with creamy milk and topped with ice,
this beverage can bring the coolness of Zen to you :)

Overall, I really enjoyed my dining experience here at Gula Cakery. The food and beverages are delicious, light and fulfilling with appropriate proportions. The cakes are divine (I absolutely LOVE the Pate A Choux). Everything is affordable and reasonably priced. The awesome staffs are very friendly and helpful. The cafe decor is nice and cozy and I really love the pastel theme as it gives the customers a soothing ambiance. Service is Great.
