[CLOSED] ZAWARA COFFEE - Fine Coffee and Fast Gourmet

UPDATE: most ZAWARA COFFEE outlets has been CLOSED down and only a few of them remained open 😭💔. These remaining outlets had been RENAMED and are currently known as DROME Cafe since 2017.

Greetings, everyone 😀
I hope that you've enjoyed your holidays and I hope that everyone will travel safely to their respective destinations. Don't race on the highway 😉

Just chilling... Nothing else matters... Hahaha

This entry is about a cafe that is near to home. Well... it's not really that near but it's not really that far either. This is my second visit because I enjoyed the food at its other branch so I thought that this cafe was worth another visit from me. I scrolled through its website to see whether there's a branch located near me (or not-so-near as long as it is easily accessible by me lol). Thankfully, this cafe has a branch that is approximately 10-15 minutes from my house (via car of course).

Yes, I'm talking about ZAWARA COFFEE.

ZAWARA COFFEE is a specialty coffee chain that serves fine coffee and fast gourmet delicacies. It is owned and managed by ZAWARA Coffee Sendirian Berhad, a subsidiary company of ZAWARA Sendirian Berhad. Furthermore, ZAWARA is actually a highly experienced company specializing in retail and franchising.

When I first heard about ZAWARA COFFEE, I was scrolling down my Facebook timeline. I noticed there were ads about the cafe and its food. The images of the food and beverages are quite appealing alongside their captions with tempting descriptions.Even my roommate and classmate already went to ZAWARA COFFEE. That's when I decided to give this cafe a try. Since I was at college at that time, the nearest branch of ZAWARA COFFEE is at Bangi Central. So, I went there with my friends after our VIVA. I was satisfied with the food so I hoped to visit ZAWARA COFFEE someday in the future. I finally got my chance as ZAWARA COFFEE has its branch here in Setapak. Yay~!!!

ZAWARA COFFEE Setapak

When I stepped into the cafe, I was welcomed by the friendly staff. There were customers relaxing while sipping their drinks and having meals with their friends. The simple-themed decorations gave a rustic charm to this cozy cafe. As for the seating areas, you can choose to sit outside or inside the cafe and you can choose either to sit freely or sit in a special section inside the cafe.

This is the special section. Ideal for those who come in groups.

The counter

Now... Let's move on with... FOOD

At ZAWARA COFFEE, everything is self-service. You need to order and pay your food directly at the counter. A pager will be given to you and it will beep out when your order is ready; hot food, dessert and beverages. Bring the pager to the counter in exchange for your food and beverages. If you order the cakes that are available at the counter, you will receive them immediately. Cutlery is provided with your food but as for straws, tissues and other condiments, you can take them at the condiments' counter provided.

This is the pager that beeps when your order is ready.

So, what have I ordered?

Wild Mushroom chowder with Italian herbs and Parmesan bread

Thick chowder made with a blend of wild mushrooms, topped with frothed fresh milk and served with Italian herbs and Parmesan bread. I think this chowder was creamy and nicely seasoned. Being a fan of mushroom soups and chowders, this was a delicious treat for me. The bread was fluffy and fragrant with the herbs and Parmesan. It complimented the chowder nicely.

Buffalo Chicken Wings

Juicy chicken wings cooked to perfection and coated with a spicy and tangy sauce. I think that this delicious dish was perfectly seasoned and the level of spiciness was tolerable. If you're afraid of getting a mess while eating this dish, no worries because plastic gloves are provided with this dish and you can continue to eat mess-free.

Spaghetti Salmon Carbonara

Spaghetti cooked al-dente tossed in creamy carbonara sauce with salmon chunks, mushroom slices, chili flakes and garnished with arugula and parmesan cheese. I think this was an interesting combination of salmon, mushrooms and carbonara sauce. The salmon chunks were juicy, the mushroom slices added extra flavour to this dish. The chili flakes added an extra kick of spiciness and the parmesan cheese gave notes of cheesy goodness. I left out the arugula garnish though because I'm not a fan of arugula.

Spaghetti Crab Meat Carbonara

This was the newest addition to ZAWARA COFFEE's menu; Spaghetti Crab Meat Carbonara. It was similar to the Spagheti Salmon Carbonara; spaghetti cooked al-dente tossed in creamy carbonara sauce with mushroom slices, chili flakes and garnished with arugula and parmesan cheese. The differences between these two dishes were the salmon chunks were substituted with crab meat flakes and the extra addition of crab surimi. Crab lovers would definitely love this dish because of its abundance of crab goodness.

Soft Shell Crab Burger

Deep-fried soft shell crab, cheddar cheese, mayonaise, pickles, arugula... All of these sandwiched between warm and soft burger buns... Crab-filled bliss that you can grab with your hands. However, I think that the taste was fine but I really wished that the crab would be crispier. It was cooked all the way through though so I guess that was okay. Plastic gloves were also being provided alongside this dish.

I ordered desserts too

Vanilla Mille Crepe Cake

Paper-thin crepes layered with vanilla pastry cream. The topmost layer was sprinkled with powdered sugar. I found this cake very heavenly with the creamy vanilla between the crepes. This is my favourite dessert at ZAWARA COFFEE so far. I'll definitely order this again on my next visit to ZAWARA COFFEE 😂

Midnight Chocolate Mille Crepe Cake

Like its vanilla counterpart, this cake was made from paper-thin crepes but it was layered with chocolate cream instead. The topmost layer was spread with a layer of decadent chocolate ganache and sprinkled with cocoa powder. It was indeed scrumptious but I preferred the vanilla version. *vanilla lover detected*

Apart from its fast gourmet and decadent desserts, don't forget to check out ZAWARA COFFEE's line of specialty beverages. This includes specially-brewed coffee, tea, milkshakes, ice blended, chocolate drinks, frappes and mocktails (non-alcoholic cocktails/drinks). For now, I only managed to order the mocktails because I have a personal taboo when it comes to drinks; I must order non-dairy/non-creamy drinks if the selected dishes are rich and creamy, hehehe. Perhaps I will try the milkshakes on my next visit to ZAWARA COFFEE. I'm dying to try the Take A Break Milkshake, Teddy Tales Milkshake and Tinkerbell Milkshake. :D

So, what have I ordered?

Mojito Blue Sky Mocktail

Mojito Berry Tea Mocktail

These two mocktails were really refreshing: mixtures of soda water, fruit concentrate, lime, mint and ice. Perfect on a hot and scorching day.

Overall, I really enjoyed my dining experience here at ZAWARA COFFEE. The food and beverages are light and deliciously fulfilling. They are affordable and reasonably priced. I love the mille crepe cakes (Team Vanilla Mille Crepe Cake) for dessert. Apart from the mille crepe cakes, ZAWARA COFFEE also serves other types of cakes, ice cream and even churros (I'll definitely try the churros on my next visit). The cafe's ambiance is very rustic, calm and inviting. The staffs are also warm and friendly. ZAWARA COFFEE is great for having lunch or tea time with friends, family and beloved or just simply chilling out alone while munching on churros and drinking milkshakes. You can also organize private functions here but do contact your nearest ZAWARA COFFEE branch in advance for bookings or requests. For now, they have branches across the Klang Valley, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya and they are currently planning to expand their branches throughout Malaysia. :)

Thank you ZAWARA COFFEE for the great experience.
